About Me

I started this blog in March 2008 when I first discovered that I was pregnant after 1.5 years of not trying - not preventing.  And so began my life as "The Pregnant Yuppy". Unfortunately, I had a miscarriage at nearly 10 weeks.  For 2 years after, Hubby and actively tried to conceive.  Our sex life revolved around the calendar and OPK sticks (ovulation predictor kits).

We actively tried to prevent pregnancy for the first 10 years of our marriage.  It turns out that we needn't have worried so much.  We have been diagnosed with "unexplained infertility".  That means that there is no medical reason why we haven't conceived.  In theory we should be able to conceive, in reality we can't.  I can't believe how much money I wasted on birth control!

After TTC (trying to conceive) on our own we finally sought the help of assisted reproductive therapy.  All the while I was hoping and praying that I would get pregnant without resorting to in-vitro fertilization.  Unfortunately they felt that IVF was our best hope and on March 4, 2010 I started my first drug of my IVF cycle.

On March 28, 2010 24 eggs were retrieved from my poor, aching ovaries.  And on March 31, 2010 - 3 sub-grade embryos were transferred back.  They didn't give us much hope that it would work and I didn't think that it did, but on April 12th a digital at home pregnancy test proved me wrong!

Now I can finally live up to my name and once again be the "Pregnant" Yuppy.

On December 9, 2010 our miracle baby, Nathan was born.  He was definitely worth the heartache and the wait.

We live in Western Canada with our 2 cats - who I don't think mind being the center of our attention.  We are both professionals - hence why I'm a "yuppy".  We love the CFL and our team is (and always will be) the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Feel free to drop me a line anytime - but be warned, while I do respond to e-mails, I don't check them too often!
